A birthday card can be ridiculously expensive! Not to mention, the risk you are taking getting the same card that someone else is giving. There is only so much personalization with a store bought card. Growing up, your parents adored your handmade things because your little hands created it. The adult version of that is DIY’ing. And I am all about creating a handmade version without breaking the bank. A pop up birthday card is no different!
Last week was my dear friend, Alyssa’s birthday. A couple months ago it was her and her boyfriend’s anniversary and I created a funny card for her that she loved. I decided to keep the tradition alive and make her a card for her birthday! Something sweet, cute and funny just like her!
DIY Pop Up Birthday Card
Grab your paper! I used cardstock for this project, it is slightly thicker than normal printer paper making it a sturdier card. You can grab any color you would like!
STEP ONE: Fold your cardstock in half, the landscape way.
STEP TWO: Grab your scissors and cut a variety of lines on the folded side of your card. Keep in mind that these will be popping out, so you can change the high and width to your liking.
STEP THREE: Fold slotted pieces inside the card.
STEP FOUR: Fold all corners ensuring that they will stand properly once card has been opened.
STEP FIVE: Take another piece of the same colored cardstock, fold it in half and glue it on top of the cut piece. This way you won’t see the slots on the outside of the card.

STEP SIX: Next cut out any shapes you desire! In this case, I am cutting out cactus shapes. You could do balloons, or any other cute themed item. Make it look realistic, or cute this is really the most personalized part of it all.
STEP SEVEN: Then you glue those pieces onto right side of the pop up slots.
