I never lived in a dorm, and now that I am older I kind of regret that decision. Living on campus can really help you establish your independence, friendships and creativity. Dorm living also means you have to be resourceful with the little space you are given. These dorm hacks are a great way to make the most of college living!
It is a little known fact that dorm rooms do not usually have kitchens. While you get your meals at the cafeteria room (or whatever it is called) there are some times where you just need a quick snack or cup of ramen. Use this rolling cart to create the perfect moveable kitchen cart for all your snacking needs!
Etsy is a great place to find unique wall art and decor pieces. During back to school season everyone it shopping which means it is more than likely you will have the same decor pieces as your fellow dorm mates. With Etsy creators, like myself, you can find different decor items and help out local entrepenuers! Snag this Dorm Sweet Dorm printable and instantly download it for your dorm room!

Seventeen Magazine created some pretty amazing dorm hacks but this one was definitely my favorite! Taking an old magazine file, flipping it on its side and attaching ti to the wall is a great upcycle idea. I imagine this as the perfect edition to a top bunk where a side table isn’t as accessible.
More Closet Space
It is a known fact that storage isn’t great in dorm rooms. If you are lucky enough to have a closet it is probably pretty small so maximizing space is a must. Using these cascading hangers is definitely a great way to fit even more clothes into your closet!
A storage ottoman is the perfect way to kill two birds with one stone. On the outside it is a cute place for your guests to chill on and on the inside you can hide any belongings you may need.
Play with Lighting
Lighting can be pretty tricky especially when you’re living with a roommate that has a completely different schedule than you. You wan’t to be able to see in the dark but not disturb the people around you. Installing pluck lights in dark places such as a closet or your desk could help keep the harsh lights down when your roomie is sleeping.
Setting things like your microwave on a wooden crate can optimize storage immensely. Not only does it open up more “counter” space but creates depth for storage.
If you have the option to lift your bed up to a “top bunk” setting you can create your very own nook. Stick a comfy chair inside and drape with some curtains to create the perfect little privacy space for studying or to just feel more at home.
No Open Flame
Open flame is a no go in dorms. This vent idea from my scent hacks post can be perfect for dorm life! Stick it in an open vent, window or ceiling fan to make your room smell a little sweeter.
