New England is the most beautiful place though I may be a little bias. Living in Maine you have all tastes of nature, from the mountains to the ocean there is beautiful scenery everywhere. There are also gorgeous homes that take on styles like coastal, cottage and even rustic. Get the laid-back relaxation from the Cape or the cozy outdoorsy feel like the mountains of Maine. You can make your New England style dreams come true with these tips and inspirational photos.
1. Coastal New England Bedroom
Keep the bedroom space light and neutral with nautical additions. Navy blues are a signature coastal feel along with light wood tones that mimic shades of driftwood. Incorporate actual driftwood to bring the outdoors in. Whites and greys keep everything feeling as fresh as the ocean breeze.
2. Coastal New England Dining Area
Coastal dining areas are all about being cozy and welcoming. Bringing the signatures blues once again into space and adding texture and design to create more depth. In the south, Joanna Gaines has created quite the following with her shiplap style. Here in New England, we have our own vertical version reminiscent of the skeleton of old cottage homes.
3. Coastal Home Decor
When you look up the coastal style on the world wide web you will be sure to find three specific themes. Lighthouses are a huge New England style spotlight, especially here in Maine. In coastal homes, you are also guaranteed to find sailboat photos and nautical pieces that include a lot of rope. And lastly, seashells and coral creating that ocean feel. All are great representations of the beautiful and overwhelming magic of the ocean.
4. Cottage New England Kitchen
The main space that comes to mind when I think of cottage decor is the kitchen. With lots of light, open shelving and a more industrial look you can truly see that the cottage kitchen gets put to good use. This photo from a tiny Maine cottage by Country Living is what dreams are made of.
5. Cottage Feel
Most cottages are known for being small and cozy, however, they can also be open when designed right. The cottage, to me, represents a comfortable gathering spot and the photo below is the perfect representation of that.
6. Rustic New England Living Space
When it comes to rustic, Maine takes it to a whole new level. Here in Maine the cabin feel is a big deal with exposed wooden beams, open fire places and big furniture.
7. New England Cabin
You cannot have some Maine style without plaid in the mix somewhere. This New England cabin is the epitomy of cozy creating such a warm environment during the very cold winter months.
