We have just taken over my childhood home. And while I enjoy the memories and nostalgia that fills the rooms, this old school ranch is in desperate need of an upgrade. I have been scouring Pinterest for the perfect new home inspiration.
The Dining Area
In our house, it’s more like a nook than a dining area. Having always dreamed of a place for friends and family to gather, a cornered table with bench and a few singular chairs seemed like the best compromise. Using a hand-me-down table, a do it yourself bench I plan to build soon and metal dining chairs (which are on sale at Target) I should be able to perfect a similar vibe.
The current kitchen consists of wood, wood, and more wood. Making the whole kitchen space look closed off and dark. We want to flip the switch and repaint the cabinets white and replace the old school laminate countertop with rustic wooden boards. Unique and useful, just the way I like it.
The Living Room
We have already painted the living room, kitchen and dining area in our new home a light shade of “pebble gray” by Glidden to bring more flow and connection to these spaces. As I begin to decorate I realize that my living spaces have taken a farmhouse meets southwestern feel…my own creation if you will. My statement throw pillow collection is growing rapidly.
The new bedroom is spacious and I love it. Decorating, however, has been slightly daunting. I want it to be my sanctuary where I can rest and reflect.
I have never had a guest room before, so this one is pretty exciting. We have a lot of nieces, nephews, and family from out of town so I want to create a versatile space that can fit a crowd if need be. This may not fit exactly in the space I have, but a girl can dream.
Now bathrooms can be expensive if you want a gorgeous, spa-like space. So this is more of a daydream than a reality. But the bathroom in my new home is similarly narrow. And don’t we all just want a claw foot tub??
The Laundry Room
The laundry room is truly where the magic happens, don’t you think? And I actually have one now to make some magic in! Oooh what a dream to not have to go to the laundromat again. I have this crappy stick on tile right now that has the original hardwood floor underneath that would definitely be an upgrade. Or should I go with this tile instead??
I have already begun decorating through my dream living room wishlist. Now the task at hand is to see if I can bring any of these inspirations to life. I’ll keep you posted.
